Mission and Purposes

The John T. Edwards Foundation is an organized Nonprofit, and its purposes are educational, charitable, and scientific. More specifically, the foundation is committed to educational activities that promote training and supervision in systems approaches of family therapy, more specifically of an Edwardian systems approach developed by our late colleague, John T. Edwards.

Its activities include the training and supervision of young students and continuing education of practitioners of family therapy through workshops, conferences, research, institutes and the dissemination of related publications and materials. Activities of the John T. Edwards Foundation will support its core values applied in the development and enrichment of family life through an Edwardian Systems Approach. These core values are reflected in the Edwardian training and supervision of family therapist to "lead by following" the needs of families in the systems context of their individual and collective spiritual, social/emotional and economic lives, respecting what everyone, including the therapist, have to offer in the process of personal growth and collective wellbeing.

"This is the best book for those new to family therapy counseling that I have ever read. It is a hands-on practical family therapy guide; light on theory and rich in technique. The author, John T. Edwards, PhD, communicates his understanding of the feelings of the new therapist from the beginning of the book, and makes the reader feel like he's beside them every step of the way. This book is comfortable and comforting, and at times, even kind of fun."
John consulted and trained countless therapist in the state and elsewhere over the years. All that had the fortune to be in a training, consult or supervision were touched by the simplicity, practicality and ease of which John made family therapy to practice. Even when the topic was treating a chemically dependent family John made the guidelines and techniques seem simple in an often overwhelming and intimidating circumstances.

The foundation hope is that we have a desire to continue John's work of spreading the concepts and ideas of working with family systems, chemically dependent families among other issues. It is our hope that we can do this by providing on line trainings of his work and that of family systems. We hope to provide live in person trainings, supervision, workshops and community events to help continue the work out friend John started. We hope by doing so we honor his memory and make him proud!
